The Delaware Geological Survey (DGS) seeks a talented and visionary Database Applications Manager who possesses a broad technical and scientific background. Under limited direction of the Director, the Database Applications Manager must have an advanced technical understanding of data management, analysis, visualization, and web-based data distribution methods. Experience and skills in scripting and programming languages including Windows cmd and bat files, R, Python, PL/SQL, FORTRAN, C, and general support of IT services and familiarity with Drupal content management systems are highly desirable. The manager also serves as DGS web master; develops and administers DGS online mapping applications and content management systems; installs and maintains server-side technology in support of web-based applications; and interacts with DGS Information Technology personnel to provide backup support for DGS computer desktop systems, network servers and software applications. He/she also develops protocols and methods for DGS data sharing and distribution, and builds and hosts open and interoperable web services to support geospatial mapping and metadata dissemination. We are seeking a dynamic and creative person who can evaluate industry-based trends in technology for hydrologic, geologic, hydrogeologic, statistical and geospatial analysis; and recommends courses of actions for future directions of DGS through prioritization of purchases and systems. The position will require the tracking of trends in data sharing protocols, standards, and technology at the State, regional, national, and international levels.
