Gulf Breeze Disaster Recovery Center Transitions to SBA Loan Outreach Center on Wednesday

PENSACOLA, Fla. – The State/FEMA disaster recovery center located at the Gulf Breeze Recreation Center is transitioning Wednesday, June 11, to a U.S. Small Business Administration disaster loan outreach center.

SBA customer service representatives will be on hand at the loan outreach center to answer questions about SBA’s disaster loan program and explain the application process. Survivors can get help applying for or closing low-interest disaster loans. The center is located at:

Deadline for Disaster Unemployment Assistance Approaching

PENSACOLA, Fla. – Residents of Escambia and Santa Rosa counties who were unemployed as a result of the April 28 to May 6, 2014, severe storms and flooding, have until Monday, June 9, to apply for federal Disaster Unemployment Assistance benefits.

Residents of Okaloosa and Walton counties have until Thursday, June 12, to apply, and Jackson County residents have until Monday, June 23, to apply.

Disaster Assistance in Florida Panhandle Nears $50 Million a Month after Storms

Survivors Have Until Saturday to Visit the Registration Intake Center in Jackson County

PENSACOLA, Fla. – Survivors of the severe storms, tornadoes and flooding in Jackson County have until 6 p.m. Saturday, June 7, to visit the registration intake center.

The State Emergency Response Team and the Federal Emergency Management Agency closely monitor visits by disaster survivors at all centers. The center will be open 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. through June 7.

FEMA Offers Rebuilding Advice at Area Home Improvement Stores

PENSACOLA, Fla. – People who are repairing or rebuilding damaged property can get advice from a Federal Emergency Management Agency mitigation specialist at two area home improvement stores.

Hazard mitigation specialists who are knowledgeable about property cleanup and rebuilding safer and smarter will be offering advice and guidance from 10:30 a.m. to 7 p.m., Tuesdays through Sundays, until June 15, at the following locations:

Home Depot, 5309 N. Davis Highway, Pensacola

Disaster Recovery Centers Open to Help Survivors

PENSACOLA, Fla. – There are still four disaster recovery centers and one registration intake center open to assist survivors of the recent severe storms and flooding in Escambia, Jackson, Okaloosa, Santa Rosa and Walton counties.

The hours of operation for the disaster recovery centers and registration intake center, this week, are Monday through Saturday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Survivors in the Florida Panhandle Warned to Watch Out for Scam Artists

PENSACOLA, Fla. – With many Floridians on the road to recovery from the recent storms and flooding, state and Federal Emergency Management Agency officials warn of scam artists.

“We understand that survivors are anxious to get repairs done and get the help they need to put their lives back in order,” said State Coordinating Officer Bryan Koon. “As you begin repairs, please take the necessary steps to ensure that you are hiring legitimate, responsible contractors.”

Florida Panhandle Survivors Urged to Stay in Touch with FEMA

PENSACOLA, Fla. – Florida Panhandle survivors who have registered for disaster assistance are urged to stay in touch with the Federal Emergency Management Agency and keep their contact information current throughout the recovery process.

If survivors change their addresses, telephone numbers, bank accounts or insurance information, they should update that information with FEMA.

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The FEMA Recovery Center at the Maurice C. West Community Center in Graysville in Jefferson County will become an SBA Disaster Loan Outreach Center at the Graysville Public Library, Saturday, June 14 at 9 a.m.

The SBA Disaster Loan Outreach Center will be open 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, then, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The SBA Center will have both SBA and FEMA staff on hand.

FEMA Assistance Based on Individual Loss, Needs

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Alabama residents eligible for Individual Assistance from the Federal Emergency Management Agency need to know that the help they may receive will be based on their own unique circumstances and needs. 

“While not everyone may qualify, our ultimate goal is for anyone who suffered damages from the tornadoes, storms, straight-line winds and flooding to receive the maximum assistance he or she qualifies for,” said Albie Lewis, federal coordinating officer for FEMA’s disaster operations in Alabama.

Survivors with Ongoing Housing Needs Should Stay in Touch with FEMA

JACKSON, Miss. – The Federal Emergency Management Agency understands that some Mississippi disaster survivors may need additional temporary rental assistance to help them achieve their permanent housing goals.

All applicants who received temporary rental assistance from FEMA were mailed a “Declaration for Continuing Need for Rental Assistance” letter.

This form is mailed 15 days after applicants receive their initial rental assistance grant and explains how to request additional temporary rental assistance from FEMA.

FEMA Rebuilding Experts to Provide Advice in Canton

JACKSON, Miss. – Residents in the Canton area can learn how to build or rebuild to reduce the likelihood of damage the next time severe storms, tornadoes or floods hit. Federal Emergency Management Agency mitigation specialists know how and they are sharing their knowledge.

FEMA mitigation specialists will be at Phillips Lumber in Canton for five days to discuss specific methods with anyone who stops by. They will have free booklets and pamphlets with additional details.

Hundreds of Volunteers Return to Repair and Rebuild Homes

ANCHORAGE, Alaska – The first teams of skilled volunteers arrived in Alaska earlier this week to continue rebuilding efforts in four Interior communities affected by the 2013 floods. The State of Alaska has been working closely with the Federal Emergency Management Agency to ensure a speedy recovery on all fronts, which includes bringing volunteers to the state.
